When I first started streaming I started in Windows and was using the Elgato HD60 Pro. When I switched to Linux it became useless and the Elgato capture card that did work with Linux was prohibitively expensive for me, so I went without until the cheap HDMI capture cards started coming out from China. They worked in Linux but they would get extremely hot, were finicky to use, and didn't have the best capture quality, especially in complex situations. Then I backed the ShadowCast 3 Pro on Kickstarter. I've used it several times on Linux Mint 22.3 since I got it and it has worked beautifully! The quality and latency are excellent and rival my old Elgato capture card, and although it gets slightly warm it doesn't get hot like the generic HDMI capture cards. Not only that but it was plug and play and was instantly recognized by OBS Studio. If you want a capture card that is reasonably priced, easy to use, and gives you a crisp and clear image I highly recommend it.

The device is pretty great with a week of usage. A bummer (but clearly labeled and known) that the limitation is 4K 60Hz… but the portability is great and an expected tradeoff for the size. Can’t comment to the passthrough adapter capability as my use case has been leveraging monitor support for iPad/MacBook from source Switch 2 and extra monitor with iPad from source PC.
Hope the unit lasts a long time and I don’t need to inquire with Genki Support as that is lacking (please look at my MoonBase review for details).

My only complaints with my SC2 Pro were that HDMI-CEC didn't seem to work, and that the Switch 2 colors looked a little off, especially with HDR turned on. SC3 Pro solves those issues, and that's enough for me to give a 5-star review. Turning my TV on and off via the console works, and now the Switch 2 gives a pop-up saying "This TV doesn't support HDR," which in my opinion is much better than trying to force an HDMI signal through, and having to troubleshoot why it looked bad. Additionally, the colors in SDR look better than on SC2. These are small things that were a pleasant surprise for me, and I thought more people should know.
